Insane in the Meme-brane
I’m not big on the these Facebook “25 Things” memes that have become so popular. In fact, I mentioned publicly that I wouldn’t do one. My friend Brian’s response, however, did get me thinking. It’s really the idea of tagging X number of people, and expecting them to respond that seemed to rub me the wrong way. I can’t take all that pressure man. Tagging a specified number of people and expecting them to do the same wasn’t that far from Bill Gates sending me a dollar for every person I sent it to, or having seven years of bad luck wished upon the House Of Colburn for every person below the magic number.
I liked Brian’s idea of not tagging anyone, but simply encouraging people that were interested to jump in on their own. Since I started thinking about that a few weeks ago, I think at least 685 or so new memes have popped up.
There’s one that I noticed in the past few days that seemed different, and pretty cool—this “album cover” deal. It was actually the only one that I saw and wanted to participate in before anyone had tagged me. I knew my time would come.
Luckily my friend Ed (author of the fantastic site Quality Peoples—go read it, it’s one of my favorites) tagged me with this action today, so I took a closer look. He’s also got a nice rundown of what this whole meme is/may be about.
I have no design background or anything like that, but I like to play around with images and Photoshop-y type things (actually Acorn), so I messed around for a bit and had a lot of fun doing it.
I ended up tagging a bunch of people in the album meme because a) I thought it was fun and different, and b) it seems like once you take away that idea that “Once you’re tagged you must do XYZ or else” it becomes pretty laid back and those that want to have fun with it can, and everyone else can ignore it.
So without further adieu, I present you with the debut album by Abi People. They’re gonna be big.
